Bridal Pop Up Event Recap

August 24, 2016

popup-46

When Bespoke Boston Weddings approached me to team up for a wedding industry event, I was thrilled. The goal of the event? To create an environment in which brides could really get to know hand selected wedding vendors in a meaningful way. I was totally in!

We wanted to achieve a boutique-style take on a traditional “wedding expo” meaning the event would be unique in that guests could enjoy mingling with vendors one-on-one, participate in live demonstrations and engage in fun activities, and relax in a casual (yet oh so chic!) atmosphere.

After many brainstorming sessions, meetings, and styled shoots, our Bridal Pop Up event finally came to fruition. Check out my recap of the event below, and read BLoved Boston’s cover of the pop up here!

Bridal Pop Up Event

The highly anticipated event was a great success, largely in part of the incredible vendors who came together to share their work under one roof. Attendees were welcomed to the VS Photography studio and greeted by the fabulous wedding planning duo, Bespoke Boston Weddings. After each guest received a pre-stuffed swag bag (with goodies from Boston Weddings and Forty Winks to name a few), they proceeded to meet our team of creatives.

What lay in store? Mini makeovers, delicious cupcakes, flower crown and floral arrangement demonstrations, a live DJ, a design-your-own-wedding-ring station, a calligraphy corner brimming with invitation suites, monogrammed take-aways, and other creative products–and that wasn’t all! Bespoke Boston Weddings introduced guests to their wedding and event planning services while I invited brides-to-be to view our most recent styled shoot and announced my new VS Photography group boudoir packages perfect for bachelorette parties, showers, and other special occasions. Phew!

However, perhaps the best part of the event was seeing so much talent in one place. To all the vendors, I am truly grateful and humbled by your efforts! And to Bespoke Boston Weddings, thank you for dreaming up this idea and I am honored to have helped and co-hosted such an inspirational gathering. Now, enjoy some behind the scenes photos and watch out for our next event!

Beautiful things happen when creatives come together to share ideas. Case in point: a little something I’ve been eager to post!

I’ve already introduced you to the lovely ladies of Bespoke Boston Weddings via the blog, as well as hinted towards our future collaborations together. The time has finally arrived and I’m excited to introduce one of the projects that we’ve been working on: our first annual Bridal Pop Up Event–and yes, you’re invited!

What’s a Bridal Pop Up Event you ask? The idea originated from the desire to pull together local wedding industry creatives (as well as makers, artists, and other vendors), provide a place for them to showcase their talents and services, and introduce them to the community in a unique and fun way. On behalf of Bespoke Boston Weddings and VS Photography, I hope the event will serve as an occasion to get together and celebrate all of the wonderful things that Boston’s best have to offer.

Editor’s Note: Summer 2016

If you’ve visited The Sweet Seed lately, then you’ve probably noticed my brief hiatus from the blog.

Let’s call this lapse of time my “summer vacation.” And while I did in fact take a few breaks here in there to indulge in summertime pleasures, I mostly wanted to take some time to refocus my efforts on this little corner of the internet in order to bring you even more amazing content from here on out.

So what does this summer hold in store? Fashion, beauty, and wellness galore, as well as stories that promote creativity, collaboration, and community. Yes, I’ve been hard at work over at VS Photography and look forward to sharing my experiences, lessons learned, as well as tips and tricks in regards to running a creative business.

My hopes are that we can all gather here in this space for weekly inspiration and celebrate the sweet things in life. I apologize for the delay, but I look forward to seeing you here this summer!

Vision Board DIY

June 1, 2016

vision board

I’ve been in the mood to make things happen. Reading motivational books, collaborating with some lovely lady entrepreneurs, joining super supportive networking groups, and growing my business (read more about VS Photography in a recent interview: here) have prompted me to set some major goals. Feeling inspired? I present to you my latest DIY guaranteed to get you going in the right direction: the vision board.

Why Vision Board?

Yes, that’s correct. I turned vision board, the noun, into a verb. Vision Boarding; verb; to bring your hopes and dreams into existence through creative means and visualization practices. Vision boarding may seem bogus to some, but I believe it’s a simple little craft that can reveal big things about yourself, your goals, and the journey you’re on to realize said goals. Of course, pinning pretty images won’t make these visions come true–that’s on you. But the act is a healthy exercise in learning what you truly want out of life. What else does it do?

It sets your intention. Goals come to fruition only when we go after them with intention. Write goals down, visualize them, say them aloud, make the decision to achieve them, and then do everything in your power to bring them to life.

It’s a road map. Of course it’s nice to craft a pretty vision board with images that reflect a hopeful, successful future. But, a board won’t make dreams true. It does however act as a wake-up call. Consider the images on your vision board like end-points on a map. You know your destination, you just have to plan out your route and enjoy the ride.

It’s a constant reminder. Life happens and it’s easy to lose sight of long-term goals. A vision board is a tangible reminder of you want. Visualization exercises work when it comes to setting and achieving goals–and making a vision board is an excellent, fun way to practice.

What to Vision Board

There are no limits on what to put on your vision board. Choose images, pictures, cut-outs, inspirational quotes, or hand-written notes that motivate you. Focus on how the images make you feel. Don’t just concentrate on material desires. Some images can directly correlate to things you envision in your future (a picture of the Italian coast if you plan to travel there in the next five years), while other images can represent something you aspire to (an image of a brand you love and want to emulate) or simply spark your imagination in a positive way (inspirational quotes or a photo that speaks to you).

Vision Board Tips and Tricks

  • Organize your board into sections; home, career, personal growth, relationships, and travel are common categories.
  • Think about your short-term and long-term goals when choosing your images for each category.
  • Once you assemble the vision board, put it in a place where you’ll see it every day.
  • Take your vision board further. Think about the steps you’d need to take to achieve your goals, write the mother of all to-do lists, and get going!
  • Follow up and update your vision board as goals become accomplished and new visions come into play.

Materials:

-foam board or cork board (size dependent on frame size)
-an old picture frame
-1 sheet decorative paper
-push-pins (like these pretty pins found here)
-double sided tape
-double sided foam tape

Instructions:

1.Cut a piece of thick foam board (thick enough so you can secure a push-pin through) according to the size of your picture frame.

2. Place double-sided tape (or you can use glue) on one side of the board, and then place and wrap a piece of decorative paper (choose your favorite print or color) around the foam board. It’s kind of like wrapping a present…for yourself!

3. Stick double-sided foam tape (it’s stronger than the regular kind) around the edges of your frame, where you plan to secure your foam board. Line up the foam board to these edges and press down to secure them together.

4. Organize your photos, inspirational quotes, cut-outs, and other flair on the board and pin into place.

5. Hang or prop up your vision board for daily inspiration.

Leading Ladies: Bespoke Boston Weddings & Events

May 20, 2016
Bespoke Boston Weddings & Events

I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know these two leading ladies on both a personal and professional level. Biana Shteyn Pérez and Jacqueline Murphy are two creatives with entrepreneurial drive and a passion for all things weddings and events. Co-owners of Bespoke Boston Weddings & Events, I couldn’t wait to feature them here on The Sweet Seed.

Something sound familiar? If you’ve been following the blog recently, you’ll remember that Biana so kindly wrote up a special series feature about my venture, VS Photography, for her blog, B Loved Boston. But, that’s not all we’ve been working on together! What’s to come from the collaboration between VS Photography and  Bespoke Boston Weddings & Events? Exciting news, a couple of gorgeously styled photo shoots (including this one), and a big event (yes, you’re invited) are all on the horizon!

For now though, learn more about Biana and Jackie and their inspiring brand here:

Bespoke Boston Weddings & Events

Current Title: Co-owners of Bespoke Boston Weddings & Events.

Biana works as a Marketing, Business Development & Corporate Events Coordinator for a Financial Services Company; Jackie is an Events Specialist at Harvard Kennedy School.

What is Bespoke Boston Weddings and Events? We specialize in expertly curated weddings and events, customized to fit your vision. We aim to create an unforgettable experience for you and your guests.

What inspired you to start your venture? Wedding and event planning is truly our passion! We became friends as co-workers in 2014 where we realized something exciting: we both shared the same dream of owning our own event planning business. The more we talked and laid out plans for our future business, Bespoke, the more we truly believed that together we could create incredible experiences for brides and grooms and beyond! Combined, we offer incredible attention to detail, extensive experience in wedding blogging and expert knowledge of the newest and most cutting-edge wedding styles. With our unique approach to wedding and event planning, it’s all in our name, we are Bespoke and we just celebrated our one year anniversary as a business!

Sum up your mission statement in one sentence? We approach your event just as you would–with the utmost care and dedication in creating a flawless day.

bespokequote

What’s one thing you’d like people to know about your business? We are truly excited about your day! We take pride in creating unforgettable moments, listening carefully to what your vision is for the event and bringing that to life. We love that our clients become our friends! Simply put–we love events and planning!

What was your biggest challenge and how did you overcome it? There is a lot of competition in the wedding and event planning industry, especially in Boston. Our biggest challenge is one we are constantly working to overcome, which is to continuously get our business out there. We’ve been lucky to meet great vendors and build relationships that will help our clients!

Who is your biggest inspiration in the industry and why? It’s hard to pick just one inspirational person in the industry–everyone who’s great at their craft inspires us. We stay up on the latest trends and the newest takes on classic design by continuously perusing social media channels from Style Me Pretty, to The Knot as well as smaller boutique pages of vendors like ourselves! To name names, we also love Mindy Weiss who puts on extravagant events for her celebrity clients and Melissa Andre who creates the most dreamy moments for her clients. We like to show our clients something they haven’t thought of before. We take their idea and expand upon it to make it even more memorable!

What is your favorite moment of the big wedding day? Biana: All the moments of the wedding day are so special–from that first walk down the aisle to the last song. I have all sorts of butterflies for the couple! I think my favorite moment is when a couple enters their reception for the first time–this is the moment they see all their family and friends so excited for them. They see a room filled with nothing but love for them and that makes me so happy!

Jackie: Every time a couple recites their wedding vows I have flashbacks to my wedding. I can put myself in the couples’ shoes and I think of how special those few minutes are in our lives. It’s also that fleeting moment of alone time the couple has as they walk down the aisle as a married couple and say to each other, “I’m Mrs.____or “hello husband!” Vows hold such significance to the wedding day, it’s the ceremony that first brings us all together–then it’s celebration time!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of the planning process for you and why? Seeing it all come together! Whether we’ve helped plan your wedding from the start or if you’ve brought us in a few months before, there is nothing quite as rewarding as seeing an event come together exactly how our clients had envisioned it. We feel so privileged that they have asked us to take part in one of the most special days of their lives. We give our absolute best to make sure that they aren’t bothered with anything and above all else, that they have fun on their special day. Knowing they are happy with the final product is the ultimate reward!

I’ve gotten to know your brand and see some of the wonderful work you both do, where do turn to for inspiration? How do you cultivate your creativity? It might sound a bit cliché, but we really do get inspiration everywhere, especially on Instagram, Pinterest and blog posts on Style Me Pretty–it all gets tucked away to use at a later date. Additionally, we do considerable research by visiting venues and meeting with vendors. We make a habit of attending bridal events and fashion shows, and take note of the latest and greatest styles!

When it comes to cultivating creativity for our clients, the process is unique in every circumstance because we cater to their personal preferences and styles. We are completely unbiased in our suggestions and want to create an exciting day.

What’s in your wedding day emergency kit? When we think of a wedding day emergency kit, we can’t help but think of Jennifer Lopez’s character in The Wedding Planner–she had everything in that purse of hers! We carry all the necessities that a bride, groom and anyone at the wedding might need. We usually stock up on the mini emergency kits and make sure to have important extras like Tylenol, Band-Aids, and hair spray. Safety pins are a must so we make sure to have plenty of extras! We are always confident that we have all the bases covered far in advance, but being a wedding planner is a bit like being a project manager–you have to anticipate all the emergencies that could come up!

What’s one piece of advice you’d like to share with our reader? Your vision can become a reality, whether it’s your wedding day or if it’s a potential future business!

Our advice for brides and grooms: Weddings are stressful and it’s easy to become overwhelmed with details. Professional wedding planners can truly assist in making the planning process a smooth and fabulous experience. Day-of coordination for your wedding will allow you to fully experience your day without the feeling of needing to focus on the logistics. Instead, we execute the logistics for you!

Our advice for future business owners: Don’t compare your business to anyone else’s business. It’s easy to get caught up in what other similar businesses are doing, but just trust in yourself. Keep building and sticking to your own aesthetic–basically don’t try to be like anyone else!

What’s one quote that inspires you? “If it’s both terrifying and amazing, then you should definitely pursue it.” by Erada.

MAY

Worth the Wait

Time has really flown by this spring. Case in point: an overdue editor’s letter. Let me explain.

The start of the season has been a whirlwind–a hectic, at-times-overwhelming, but extremely exhilarating whirlwind. What am I rambling on about? Recently, I’ve teamed up with so many talented artists and creatives in order to bring a few special projects to life. While I’ll wait to reveal exactly what these projects are later on the blog (and my photography page VS Photography), I will say that I’ve truly been inspired by the power of collaboration.

This month, I’d like to introduce you to some fabulous people, show you a sneak peek into what I’ve been working on, and share with you a few pieces of exciting news. But more so, I’d like to celebrate the magic that happens when makers come together in the spirit of creativity.

Can’t wait for the next post? Read a recent interview of mine put together by the oh-so-amazing Biana of B Loved Boston. Hint: there will be more where that came from soon!

Until then,

XO
