Name: Leaf Shea
Location: Brookline, MA
Current Title: Owner of Leaf Boutique

Could you say a few words about Leaf BoutiqueLeaf Boutique embodies an on trend clothing, jewelry and accessories store.  A mix of modern, bohemian, USA made, and ethnic inspired clothing and jewelry to make up your perfect, one of a kind of outfit.

What inspired you to start your own boutique: My mother had a jewelry shop in Edgartown on Martha’s Vineyard for 35 years.  I worked for her every summer and learned everything there is to know about jewelry!  After graduating from Umass I opened Vintage Jewelry & Modern Boutique when I was 25.  Clothing became a passion for me about 10 years in and I started carrying boutique lines such as Mystree, Tolani, Desigual, YA Los Angeles, Double Zero, Second Yoga Jeans, Salaam, Angie and many more.  I decided to renovate and re-brand last year to Leaf Boutique after years of new customer confusion over the name “Vintage.” Many customers assumed I was a consignment shop!  As a result, we had an amazing year and have made many new customers.

How would you describe your style: I would say my style at heart is BoHo.  I grew up on The Vineyard with a bunch of hippies and it will always be a part of my life!  On the other hand I love a beautiful jumpsuit and heals, depending on my mood.  Having your own store is like having a gigantic closet of all the best new fashion that changes with the season!

Sum up your mission statement in one sentence: Creating an amazing experience for my customers is what really drives me.  The mood in the shop is very relaxed, comfortable and inspiring.

What’s one thing you’d like people to know about your business: I’ve had many, many people tell me how they come here because it’s a pleasurable shopping experience, they can always find something and leave happier than when they came in!  And I can’t tell you how many customers have said that they always get compliments on what they buy here!

What was your biggest challenge and how did you overcome it: My biggest challenge was running the store while I was starting a family and having 3 boys…in the middle of a recession.  Thanks to an amazing staff and family we just had our 20 year anniversary in Brookline!

What’s one piece of advice you’d like to share: My advice is to always try to find the good in people.  Over the years I’ve learned a great deal about people and how to treat them with compassion and respect no matter who they are or how they look.  Never make assumptions!

What style trends are you looking forward to this year: This season BoHo is still huge, lots of tassels and fringe.  Flare jeans and floppy hats.  Beautiful cover-ups, maxi’s and stacked jewelry, we have it all, and then some!
